Crazy and Sick (days)

Yay, finally something that is not a complain entry or unemployment related. Oh wait, I just said those words out in the first paragraph, first sentence..... Oh well. Yeah, I am so freaking busy last Friday, Saturday and today! I love my weekends!!!!!!

Anyway, I was about to say something about last Friday, but since Ammie had already blogged about that, I will just let you read her entry about our night! So go check her blog out! See Ammie I am promoting your blog. You better give me a good Kris Kringle, if we are doing this thing this year. Anyway, I am still sick. Have to go for the show cause I have already brought the ticket, and that's the place I am dying to go. It is called Aunty Mavis in Stocking Stuffer and Tuckey Plucker. That's a cabaret cum musical stand up comedy, nothing about cha cha dance or lifting skirts. By the way Aunty Mavis is played by a guy, I don't think people will want to see his sack.

I must say his work is very entertaining, singing Tiger Balm in replacing Jingle Bell. Giving audience his/her "meat pie" or should I say share the meat pie, and his/her rummy balls that she brought from Down Low. That's a very good pun, and she is basically giving out rum balls. I think sometimes it has a lot of gay terminology and jokes! Go check out what Down Low means.

The night was just marvelous, but there were some hiccups. I won't disclose them here, you can ask Ammie what happened.

*****

Saturday was a lot of shopping, I did most of the walking and someone did most of the shopping. Haha. I am just too broke to shop. Keeping the money till Boxing Day! Bwahaahaha.

*****

Here comes today! Stay back for most of the day, before joining my aunt to her Mahjong Xmas Break-up Party. It is just a normal party with all of the mahjong people having a great dinner and endless amount of wine/champaynes.

But what so fascinating is, I MET HAMISH BLAKE!!!!! For those who has not heard of Hamish Blake, he is one of the comedian very well known in Australia. He is freaking funny but very down to earth kinda guy. If you want to know more, Google him out!

So we parked just outside Lentil As Anything, one of my favorite restaurants in Melbourne, in St Kilda, I saw this guy that parked at the side of the road. When he came out, I was thinking, he looked so much like Hamish Blake. When he walks towards us, I am so sure He IS Hamish Blake. I was pretty nervous, no chill running through my spine though. And this is what our short conversation went:

Me: (fractically) Are you Hamish?
Hamish himself: Yes!
Me: (speechless because I am just stunt and blurred)
Hamish himself: How are you going?
Me: (he actually asked me how m I going?) I am good! And yourself?
Hamish himself: Yeah I am good too.

And we went our own way. He probably want to grab some tea himself, before his car (MINI COOPER) be towed away. I am so speechless and happy because you rarely get to see any celebrities, let alone someone you really admire. He is the person who cheered my gloomy days and not so good days. If you want to know whether he is cute or not, look at the picture below. He is the one on the left.

I have thought of showing you guys some of his work. But being a computer idiot, I have no idea how to put Youtube up into blogspot. Will try to put my hand into it. So for now, you guys will have to go the link instead.....

It always end with a Fat Lady singing

I was extremely excited the past three days! Saturday was the Hair-Cut day which I have longed for awhile, and I was thinking that it could be my shopping day (after 2 months of no-shopping rules became effective). Sunday was Ammie's (my beloved Mother who give birth to me when she is only 1 years old) birthday outing and Today is my interview, which I was hoping to get through! Okay I am not going to tell you guys what happened over those three days, I am just writing this because I was excited.

As I was saying, when I was out Saturday there was actually the Christmas Parade going on along Bourke Street Mall. I wasn't very keen to look at people dress-up like clowns and bears waving at us with kids at every corner shrieking for them and begging their mom for them to hug those ugly-looking-bear-people..... The whole street was chock-a-block with peoples and crying babies...... I will never stand there any longer than 10 minutes. But then, it is when it hits me. Christmas (or Xmas, as we called it here, cause none of us really care it is a birth of JC, so maybe it is the birth of X!) is just around the corner. One year have passed so quickly and 2008 will be gone by the time I post this entry. So not true!

Since I am not a Christian/Catholic, Xmas doesn't really matters to me. For your information, people from Western countries don't celebrate Xmas like Asian do. No late night party during Xmas Eve or morning shopping on Xmas. Just to make this clear, cause every friend of mine will always say that it is so nice to spend Xmas in Melbourne. So not true. People just bloody go back to their home and eat dinner. It is bloody summer over here as well..... 45 degree days, so not prepared for that......

Here comes my main proposition. After Xmas? BOXING DAY!!!!!! Yes, it is not the day people box each other, but it is time for people like us to SHOP. OMG, I wonder whether someone will get an shopping orgasm from this? It is when price is Cut Cut Cut, clothes were Cheap Cheap Cheap, and, boys and girls are Hot Hot Hot!

Upon saying these few words, I really need to get a job. So I can Shop Shop Shop! Ending my long shopping hiatus....... This year I really need to improve my skills and start the celebration as early as possible. Though, I won't be there standing next to a triple size lady in front of the Myers Supermarket. No, neither will I be seen sleeping in front of that door the day before.

Besides, I am desperate to move out of my aunt's place. Alright, before people start shooting me saying it is Free Accommodation and Free Meals, I am someone who liked his Freedom A LOT. So I need money (that's the conclusion). And the solution? I need to get a job, OR, start working as a Rent Boy. I am not sure I can break through into that market, since every gay guys are hotter than I am........ And to become as hot as them, I need modal which I am currently short of........

Feeling a bit chatty tonight. No idea why......

ASM Conference

I better write this entry before I go off for holiday back in my hometown. I assume I will be a tourist in my hometown, cause I presume Penang will change to a phase I will never recognise. But before that, I will be heading to Gold Coast and watch a real life whale. I hope it will be great.

The past five days, I was busy. In fact, I was very very busy. I was attending a international level conference from Australian Society for Microbiology. Sound very interesting huh? Actually it is some sort of lecture over another lectures, that start from morning going through evening. You hear me correctly, sometimes I was over there from 8.30am to 10.00 pm. Of course it is not all about lectures, we have time for networking and social (this is what it said over the itinerary). I have to say, these lectures are very different from those you experienced during undergraduate. During undegraduate study, we were taught of what is the definition of Gram negative bacteria, what is bioremediation or the use of infection control. But over here, since I am the most under-qualified person, their talks were mostly on the research they did and what are they looking for.

There were heaps of microbiologist from all over the world. I was lucky to be able to chat with some of the most powerful person in this field. The first day was rather bleak. I was from the outback and looking at people chatting away are not a good sign when I have no one to talk to (except my supervisor). Luckily I managed to adapt to this kind of situation and prised my mouth open to speak with strangers. Almost everyday, I managed to talk with a handful of strangers, and "network". I didn't know being a scientist is so hard..... Anywho, on the second day, I noticed although there were high amount of people chatting in groups, there were bound to have people who stood there alone, feeling out of place. Then I began to feel relief and chatted away.

Thanks to my supervisor, who invited me to present in a small workshop, I managed to chat with some people from different universities, all around Australia. The picture below is my supervisor presenting in that workshop.
This is my lovely lengthy poster displayed in the Exhibition Hall.
That picture was taken when I was in a plenary presentation by a Laureate Prof Peter C. Doherty. I should say, some of the presentations can bored you to sleep or dead, while others are very amusing and funny.
I was very excited, afterall it is my first time attending a conference. I dare not take too many photos, cause none of them took any photos, and besides people are over here to listen to the presentation. Not to take photograph like all the Asian like to do. So three photos are all I can get from five days of conference.

Now you comb now you don't

I guess this entry's title is rather weird rite? now you comb now you don't? What does it means? Okay, for the past few days, I have been complaining to someone, you know who you are!, that my hair is bugging me..... All flat hard to make it stand up. Maybe because once I got lazy making them all stand up, they will fall flat and stuck to my head.... Haih......

So I finally can't take that anymore, and went back to Melbourne for my stylist. This time, my stylist was none other than my Fat Aunt! Ta. Ta. Ta. Ta.......

She was shock to know what I am going to cut, and I don't know whether you guys will be shock as well. But I INSISTED. The picture below is me without my hair cut. All flat, looked exactly like a nerd.
Then after the hair cut:

There! Buzz cut!!!!! Although it makes me looked a bit "eggy", and I can tell people still can't use of that, well, they have to!
Hahahahaha. It does look better with my sunnies and Ipod, rite?

What is your say?

Looking Up and Reaching for the Sky

I am finally finished with my Honours Thesis! After 4 months of nonstop writing and cracking up my head to correct my own badly-sounded English, it all comes to one day or pathetically worry on every single bit of the thesis formatting..... But at the end of the day, although I was knackered, lethargic and having millions of stuffs running around my head, I felt good. Not happy cause I was too numb to be happy. GOOD! I felt even better when my supervisor told me how proud she is! Those little words do make me feel a lot better!
(PS, you will never get these treatments if you are under an Asian supervisor, so beat it)

Yesterday, I was telling myself that I should NOT be typing anything for at least two days. But what are you looking now? Yes, I am typing on my blog, blog entry won't just come into existence if no one is writing it......I am not staying with an extraterrestrial person either. I just can't seems to stop myself from doing work, I guess. Don't get me wrong, I am not a workaholic. I know when to enjoy my day. These days there weren't any good movies and tv shows over Austar. Just when you thought paid tv has everything, but not every single minute of the day.

There are thousands message I wanted to pass on during the holocaust/hiatus, but I was just too busy to write up something nice. These few days, a Melbournian drop-out, Cory something is stirring the water again. First he crashed his own parent's house, then once he got famous in doing that, people thinks they can make money out of him. By giving him more money and attentions in doing those absurd behavior. For your information, to those who is not in the land down under, or just plain living in a nutshell, this guy is a real nuisance. Creating problems everywhere he goes, and over-partying like no body's business. I guess he doesn't realise that after a few years, he will be living in a dump with no one attention. And the last thing he might do is suicide, since this is a good attention seeking events! I am not cursing him here, but I am just merely stating the obvious.

A lot of people come over to me, saying " Yeah, so you are done now! I am envy you cause you can do nothing now!". Hell no. I have heaps of stuffs to do, just like the next undergraduate student standing next to me. Oh not next to me, cause I am in my room writing this entry, and no one is standing next to me. If you guys bothered to look at the two previous posts, I had as much thing as you guys. Maybe even more... But those of the stuffs that I am dying to do.
Presenting in a nationwide conference! How good is that.

I guess I should be done for today. Off to do more workout in the gym!! I will be doing down to the big smoke tomorrow! Till then,

Third Time is a Charm

I was pretty happy yesterday! Three good events happening on that single day! The first thing: My method for Hexadecane sample analysis worked with the standards! So there are something for me to look after, after the New Year!!!!! The second thing: My iPod Classic finally arrived! And it is in good conditions and all. I will further explain it in details. And the last thing: Xmas dinner and outing with Honours coursemates!

They make it on Monday, because Laura still have a defense on that morning. So the night is the time she finally get to enjoy herself for good!!!! We began the outing by having a nice dinner at Angelina's. It is Christmas!!! With a Christmas tree and candle!
The dinner was okay. Not that it is a rip off, and it that fantastically nice either. I've got a Homer Simpson's mug from Laura and a bottle of wine from Micheal! I love that mug, anyway I am a big fans of Homer Simpsons!!!!! (might post that mug soon).

The Honours Office occupants! Except Royce. From Left: Laura, Me, Micheal, Royce and Jacinta.

After dinner, we were too free, so we had a photo-taking frenzy. Took photos like crazy, from different cameras. I thought I will be the only one who brought along a camera, instead Micheal, Andre, and Jacinta did brought along theirs too.

After the dinner, we were planning to go for a show. But none of the movie were any good at that time. Instead of going to Laura's place for a movie marathon, we went for bowling.
It was nice, after how many years of absence on the bowling track.

The balls.

Royce showing his Turkey strike, while Laura waiting to clear the gutter.

Jacinta giving out a shriek when she got a spare.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Next is my ipod classic!!!! My wife, My baby!!!!
Ipod Classic, Silver, 80Gb

She finally arrived! I was so desperate to have it, that I walk all the way to Jason's place to grab my baby. Yep, it was sent to Jason place, because he helped me to buy using his card. Came back, straight away charged for 3 hours. It wasn't that expensive to buy it from Apple website, just A$350 while Ipod nano is about A$200. Isn't it crazy? With extra 150 bucks, you can get extra 76Gb. And of course I will buy the bigger space one. After coming back from the outing, I went straight to my room to grab a few photos of this beauty!

I have it engraved for free! Too bad you can't see it. Well if you really want to know what is the engrave, come and ask me when I was listening to it!!!!! Now, it is still too delicate, that I dare not use it as often. I scare that I might make a scar or mark on the mirror back or the cliche front. I am going to buy a case for that! And I am ready to roll with my ipod!!!!!

Lord Darth Lex!

Yippie!!!!! Today, I almost jump up with joy! Why?????
My mask came on time, just before we need to do mix our compost. Sorry being so pathetic, I don't like the idea of breathing pathogen spores. Oh, for those of you who don't know what I am saying; I am a Honours student (ahem!) doing research on bioremediation of waste with compost (not so ahem, but I liked it!). Don't know what is compost? Just type http://www.gofuckinggoogleit.com and you will know......

Anyway, back to my psyche, it came just on time, and I've said that twice..... It is installed with HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) filter. Means I am safe from all the harmful pathogens and their spores!!!!!That one belongs to me, I am not going to let any other person use it. And I reckon no one want to use mine, god knows what could be produced from my breath. Hahahaha. Now, I not only need to wear safety goggle (got use of that); I need to wear the mask whenever we do stuffs with the open compost. Anyway it helps because the waste smelt like vomits and others smelt like petroleum spills..... Oh wait, they are petroleum waste, what the hell I am talking about?..... If you are wondering, the waste that smell like vomit or worse is actually waste from grease trap that we got from the fast-food restaurant.... Yep, Maccas or KFC or Hungry Jack and etc....

Me wearing full PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) in the lab. Overslept, so didn't have time to wax my hair....

However, when we wore that, there are some disadvantages. It is hard to hear what my supervisor wanted to say, when he is wearing one as well. Our breathing sounded like Lord Darth Vader, from Star Wars. If I have a safety hat from the construction, I will look exactly the same as Lord Vader!

Then, after reading Kenny Sia's blog for long, I've the urge to start playing with my pictures..... And here you are, Lord Darth Lex!!!!!!!! Hahahahaha..... *pathetic laugh*

Which one is more handsome???? Please say me?!

Drunkards

The Leongs: One is drunk, one is undrunkable, and another one is gone (from this picture)

This entry should be posted on Saturday, but I was already on the way to Grampians trip. Okay, this is how it goes....

On friday night, after doing my bioactive assignment, my body and mind was eagered for some liquours. SO, when Wayne came to give me the sleeping bag for the Grampians, I begged him to bring me along to Tina's Birthday party. I wasn't invited, just crash the party for booze! I was planning to have some 'highness', and wanted to go back to sleep at 12.30am. So I thought/planned...

When we went into South 3, the first person who saw me, Sookie, said "WHY so LATE?" I answered that we are famous people and will come to party 'fashionably late'. She replied me with a smile and a big heavy punch... Ouch... When I first came in, Jackie greeted me and I told him I needed a drink. Anything will do. Very good of him, he got me a tequila. While talking with him and Byron over the counter, Farah came and took my tequila away. Dammit. Instead we were given Cowbow smoothies ( a smoothies will liqour). That was nice. Took a shot of that, followed with a beer given by Jackie. While drinking that beer, Byron shouted for another shot of Cowboy... Shot it down again, and I am slightly high to dance on the floor with most of the gals that day. I don't think I saw Selegne drunk yet and Sharon was scared of drinking because of last week...I wasn't drunk, till....

Okay, I have no idea what kind of drinks I drank that day, I definitely remember, I've two tequila shots. With the 'undrunkable' Sookie and 'controlable' Wayne. Tequila is awesome!!!! After those shots, I went and dance again. Had somemore shot again and followed by group shot again. Countless... When I started to get the feeling of drunk, all I did was dance around with gals (still sane enough not to dance with guys, you might not know at the down under...) Hahaha. Joking. All night long, I keep on telling everyone these three sentences:

Oh shit, tomorrow I am going to Grampians at 6am, and I am still partying now

I need to wake up early, and I am still drinking

Screw Grampians, I am staying to party (totally wasted)

After the last shot, should be like the 7th wine shot (wine also can shot; how pathetic huh), or maybe after 6th whiskies shot... I totally no idea. I was so drunk that I could not walk straight. I could not control myself anymore. I remember going up the laptops and speakers table and asked Sookie to find this song "Turn Me On" for me... But she could not find it, and I was in total wasted stage. Ben came to the party, in home shirt and a short. That guy play a prank on me while I am drunk. Asked me which gal I liked?.... I am not going to tell you people the answer, cause I am drunk (My excuses).

At that time, my Japanese was very fluent, as compared to normal awake stages. I think I need to be in a drunk situation to speak fluent Jap? I wonder.... That time I don't think anymore. I just speak out loud. Haha. I was dragged back to my home, South 6. Using the $60 Grampians trip which I paid as a motivator to move me. That wasn't all. But I am not going to tell you people what happen in my room... That will remain a secret. Hahaha

Okay, the next day Kelvin came and woke me up. Tried twice, but in vain. The last time, he used the same thing again, " You are going to Lose 60 bucks", and right away I was sitting on my bed... Hahaha. Went up the bus, still in a drunk stage... Luckily the trip took 6 hours, and I was totally awake after that time.

No hangover, I wonder why.But most of the stuffs went out to be cloudy and blur...

Where my future lies?

These few days, I've had some up and down moments. These up and down moments always related to my future. Where will it lies? Well I'm very unpredictable, so is my future UNPREDICTABLE like Australian weather (cited from My Aunt, 2006).

First up moment will be when my supervisor Kirsten Shliephake (or Kirsten only) told me that people in Australian Sustainable Industiral Research Centre (ASIRC) are very impressed with my work and my enthusiasm! She added that if I want to do honours, she can help me find more scholarships from ASIRC as well as other companies!!!!Hurrah!!!!

Then down moment will be when I get my results. It is not a complete down, but I am a bit disappointed with Environmental Microbiology which only get low credit (C)... You need at least high credit (65-69) average to be appointed with honours programme. Hopefully next year they will be more lenient to those wanting to apply for honours.

After a few days of down, I've got a up moment again! This research I am currently doing, might be just an introduction to a possible 1 Year Honours programme (of course I will be the one doing it, because I've started it). Kirsten was saying this Third Year research will be a carrot luring the Transfield Service people in giving us grants in doing the 1 Year research more related to Biodegradation! At the same time, my down is that this research project will be more related to Instrumental Analysis than Microbiology.

No worries, all I need to do is score well for the coming Industrial and Food Microbiology unit, with hopefully enough Distinction for my other units to enable me for Honours Application and enough MONEY for my Honours. But for now, I need to enjoy my summer!!!

PS: You might be wondering, why this idiot suddenly want to take up Honours? The answer is: I am trying to get Aussie PR which need you to study in Oz for at least 2 years.... Why not go back Malaysia? Sorry I am not a patriot and I don't think the Chinese in Malaysia is treated they way they should. But partly will be the money. How much I've spent in Oz, could not covered up if I work in Malaysia.....
